Well, quite. But the problem the Monkees have that Nimoy doesn't, is the characters in the TV series have the same names as the actors. Added to the fact it was always made clear Peter wasn't like the Peter character in real life, this encouraged the belief that the other three were really like their characters. The burden on married father David in the late 60s to keep up the cheeky chappy flirt is a case in point. Although there is nothing intriniscally negative about Monkee Mike, I just think real Mike felt he was never allowed to grow up and (as he saw it) away from the character so together with the whole instruments/manufactured/ legitimacy thing he resents carrying all that baggage (let's face it, he has enough of his own...see 'Daydream Believers' biopic <g>). Conversely. he behaves like every other band memner of a rock group, falling out and dissing each other and then making albums together etc. is de rigeur, so ironically, all his negativity does is re-inforce his position as and itegral part of the real band!
